Junior College Men's Water Polo began in 1973. Since that time the men's water polo program has been fostering an environment that allows student athletes to find success both in the pool and the classroom. We completed a great 2007 season where we were Big 8 Conference Champions, second in the Nor Cal Playoff Tournament and had the highest finish in school history winning the third place game at the State Championships. We finished with an overall record of 27-8-1, which include wins over Cuesta, American River, Yale, Cal Poly and a tie with M.I.T. 2007 and 2006 also marked the only two times in the school history that the Cubs advanced to the State Championship Tournament. Along with our teams success we had four players named All American and Joey Gullikson was named Big 8 Player of the Year. The team is already excited about next season with eight players returning to the line up, including three All Americans. SRJC Men's Water Polo was invited this year to play in a NCAA Division I water polo tournament in Boston, hosted by MIT. At the tournament the Cubs proved they were a high level team returning from the trip 2-2-1. They opened the tournament with a 4-8 loss to Harvard and a well fought 8-10 game against Brown (ranked NO. 22 in the nation). SRJC then battled back to a 6-5 victory over Yale, a 16-2 crushing of Connecticut, and finished with a 6-6 tie with host MIT. Congratulations to the men's polo team for their impressive showing in this prestigious tournament.
