In addition, the Bear Cubs have been invited to participate in ten bowl games and have played in a bowl game eight straight years, winning 6. In 2006 The Bear Cubs tied for the Nor Cal Conference Championship with a 10 & 1 record and defeated Reedley College in the State Center Bowl 21-20. A number of school records were broken in 2006 on both sides of the ball and special teams. Overall it was one of the best seasons in school history. Big wins at SF City College and Butte added to the streak of eleven straight wins on the road that include two bowl games. SRJC finished ranked 3rd in the state and 4th in the
nation. The 2007 season picked up right where the 2006 season left off. The SRJC Bear Cub football team finished the 2007 season with a 7 – 4 record and their 11th consecutive winning season. The Cubs traveled to the central valley to play Reedley College in the State Center Bowl. This marked the 8th straight season that the Bear Cubs have gone bowling and the 9th bowl game in Coach Simons’ 12 years at SRJC. SRJC’s spread, no huddle attack finished #2 in the nation in both passing yards and points scored. Prior to ’07 the Cubs “ Fast Break “ attack had led the nation in passing yards and TD passes for 4 consecutive seasons and 6 of the past 8 years. In 2006 SRJC averaged the nation’s best 42.3 points per game and in ’07 they put up 42.5 points per contest. Sophomore QB Greg Alexander finished his career as the all time national leader in TD passes with 71 ( 76 if you count 2 bowl games ). Alexander broke 15 school records including the following:

In 2008 Alexander will take his strong right arm to the University of Hawaii’s run and shoot system. 2007 marked the 7th consecutive year that a Bear Cub QB was all conference and the 11th time in Simons’ 12 years at SRJC. 5 different Bear Cub QB’s have been named to the All American team. WR Aubrey Quarles who was named to the 2006 All American team missed the final 7 games of the season with an
injury and will be making plays for Kansas State University in 2008. The “Code Blue” defense of SRJC had another great year in 2007. Their swarming effort resulted in 9 blocked punts, 5 blocked P.A.T.’s and 2 blocked F.G.’s. In addition to getting after kicks, the pride of the defense has always been ‘TAKE AWAYS”. In ’07 the Bear Cub defenders intercepted 12 passes, had 17 fumble recoveries and made 4th down stops in every game. Their aggressive style of “in your face” defense wreaked havoc amongst their opponents and had QB’s scrambling for their lives. ILB Ulla Pomele ( Kansas State ), DE John Shackford ( Portland State ), and CB / KR Clarence Ward ( UTEP ) led the charge for the SRJC defense. Once again the Special Teams were truly special and won games with big kick off returns, blocked punts and blocked field goals. Scotty McKeon was the All-Conference Kicker and Clarence Ward was the All-Conference Kick Returner.
